Scene 13
The Tardis. The doctor is in front of the Chamelean
Arch. There is a chair below it. The Tardis door opens
and Martha and the Master enter.
This scene is like the previous scene between the
Doctor and the Master where Martha fades into the
background, only we continue to see her in the
background taking out her medicine and measuring the
right amount to kill the doctor.

DOCTOR
Master, Your work on tracing personality engrams in
Gallifreyan pedigrees. It is simply amazing. I was
impressed.

MASTER
Thank you. It has been my passion, my hobby so to
speak.

DOCTOR
When you weren’t taking over worlds that is.

MASTER
Isn’t your hobby picking up girls and then dumping
them?

DOCTOR
Now, now …
I think I’ve found a way to stop that drumming in your
head. I can use the chamelean arch to insert a barrier
that will block the personality engrams that are
causing the interference.

MASTER
I suppose it will hurt.

DOCTOR
Don’t be a baby.

MASTER
But now that I come to think of it, I don’t think that
I want to block them out.

DOCTOR
What? Why not?

MASTER
These influences from Rassilon and Omega. they may be
what make me great. Maybe without them, I won’t be the
same person.

DOCTOR
Perhaps without them you will be a better person. A
happier person.

MASTER
Or perhaps it will make me a vegetable.

DOCTOR
This might save you. It might make you sane.

MASTER
So you think I’m insane do you?

DOCTOR
I think that you’re acting pretty paranoid, yeah.

MASTER
No, I refuse.

This treatment might make me lose my drive to
dominate. My will to win.

I will not be simply ordinary. If that is what your
machine does then I’ll tolerate the drums. I will NOT
have my greatness diminished.
One day, Doctor, I will rule the universe.

DOCTOR
You know I won’t allow that.

MASTER
And how will you stop me when you’re dead. Martha,
now!

Martha injects the Doctor. He stares into her face
with a look of pain and betrayal and then falls to the
floor.

MASTER
Now the other one. Now!

Martha stands frozen looking at the Doctor. She fills
the syringe but turns toward the Master instead.

MARTHA
It was you. You told me to do this. You hurt my
family.

MASTER
You will go back to the Doctor and inject him.

MARTHA
I’m not listening to you anymore. I don’t know why I
ever did before. You destroyed the world. You are the
epitome of evil and you should die.

MASTER
Stop it. Stop it now.

MARTHA
I don’t care what happens to me. You’re dangerous, and
I’ll be damned if I let you live to see another day.

MASTER
Don’t you care what happens to him? What you gave him
will paralyze his hearts. One has probably already
stopped.
But even without the second injection he will die.

MARTHA
What do you mean?

MASTER
The thing that keeps him from regenerating isn’t the
poison in your hand, but the shock that it was you who
killed him.

Martha looks at the Doctor. He writhes on the floor, a look of shock on his face.

You see to regenerate, a Time Lord has to have the
will to live. He has to want to. If he gives up and
accepts death he will die. And to have his beloved
companion kill him.

You see, he knows that hypnotism isn’t one hundred
percent. I couldn’t force you to do what you weren’t
already willing to do already. It is your betrayal
that is killing him now. He’ll be dead soon. He has
only moments to live.

Martha turns and goes to the Doctor. The Master
leaves the tardis.

MARTHA
Doctor, Doctor, hang in there.

Martha rummages in her bag and finds a stimulant. She
injects the Doctor and then listens to his hearts. She
starts CPR. This goes on for a bit.

MARTHA
Doctor, please. come back to me.I didn’t mean it. I’m sorry.

I guess sometimes. I think that maybe my life would have been better if I had never seen you in that hospital.

But then I remember all of the things that we did together. Don’t die. Please. Please don’t die.

Martha feels for his pulse, there is none. She lays her head down on his chest and cries.

Eventually the Doctor takes a big breath and moves his
hand.

MARTHA
Doctor, oh Doctor, are you alright?

DOCTOR
(weak)
I think, yes I’m alive. I should be able to move soon.
The Master…

MARTHA
She’s gone. She got away.
Doctor, I’m sorry. The Master got to me because I was
too much of a coward to do what I have to do.

DOCTOR
Do … what?

MARTHA
This.

Martha holds the Doctor’s head in her hands and gives
him a long passionate kiss.

MARTHA
Goodbye Doctor.

Martha gets up and runs out of the tardis. The
Doctor sits up.
Scene 14
Martha on the street with Tom.

TOM
So she escaped while you were escorting her to an
appointment with a Doctor. Will this effect your
licence?

MARTHA
Well, It will go on record, but Dr. Kinderhaus seems
to think that it’s his fault as well. He says that he
should have known that she wasn’t well enough to leave
the facility.

TOM
But they’re sure to find her sooner or later. She’s
insane. Not just that, she’s famous. Someone will
recognize her.

MARTHA
I don’t know. Somehow I think that she won’t be so
easy to catch.

Martha’s phone rings. She glances at the screen which
reads The Doctor. She hesitates, and then puts it back
into her pocket.

TOM
Aren’t you going to answer that call?

MARTHA
It’s just work. I’ll call them after lunch. Come on
Tom, the food is waiting. Vindaloo. Curry. Yum.
They walk down the street and get lost in the crowd.
