Sometimes, children play this game. One will start singing a song, then the next one will sing with them and the first one will stop singing. But then another child will take up the song, and they will pass the song on and on for as long as they can. It is their way of playing at eternity. But no matter how long they sing, they will never reach eternity.
Sometimes civilizations play this game. They will light a lamp. Then people will light their hearth fires from this lamp. If the first lamp goes out, they will light it again from one of the hearths. The light is passed back and forth. It is this civilization’s attempt at reaching eternity, but no matter what they do, they will never reach eternity.
Sometimes living organisms play this game. They take their genes and they copy them. Then they split them in half and make a new organism. When the first organism dies, the second still carries the genes. Sometimes, they will mix the genes between them and make completely new organisms. These organisms will pass genes back and forth and on and on. It is their attempt to reach eternity. But no matter what they do, they will never reach eternity.
Sometimes galaxies play this game. They will gather together matter until they form an explosion that makes a star. The star will burn, and then it will explode making a cloud of matter that will reform into other stars. Those stars will explode and seed other stars, and other stars. It is their attempt to reach eternity, but no matter how long they burn, they will never reach eternity.
Sometimes Universes play this game…
